AI and its Intersection with Cyber Physical Technologies for a New Smart Algorithm Perspective
Within this talk we are discussing new trends of AI for a fusion of existing knowledge infrastructures to develop solutions for digitalizing and reasoning across various areas as engineering, medicine, economy and ecology, and education. We are aware of new methods to solve complex and multidimensional task. Furthermore, the technological infrastructure under the perspective of smart production and industry 4.0 or smart city is growing, enabling new smart algorithms to create additional business value. However, despite the technological growth it is difficult to predict which standard models are utilizable for complex task.
Smart societies needs to be prepared for unpredictable events, may it be manufacturing scenarios, social activities or disasters in a city context. This leads to requirements which can be complex and also more dimensional and require the integration of human resource, creativity and modern technologies. As an example of AI applications we are seeing the rise of Big cities as complex systems of integrated technologies, being permanently in a dynamic process of change due to changing needs of the population, technologies, environmental influences or new legal regulations. If we are looking towards a smart society then any kind of Smartness is in dire need of a simpler, more powerful and more usable AI, building on a smart intersection of multi-dimensional big data integration, analysis and a smart composition of intelligent algorithms to support the organization and integration of information and needs to prove the power of a sustainable perspective for AI.
Here the new technological devices and their continuous integration itself is becoming a new resource. This new knowledge imbued resource is defining the context of data and algorithms and raising new perspectives and techniques and needs a similar blend of visions as Cyber Physical Technologies. Enabling factor is to provide a common ground within smart cities or organizations that can be seen as a knowledge-driven digital twin that goes beyond a mere problem perspective. Using this new ground as shared knowledge, can be a successful and approachable way to start smart solutions from a single source of knowledge which is human and machine understandable. With this approachable trend we are raising the potentials for success in dealing with comprehensive requirements in complex, smart environments.
Madjid Fathi is a professor and Head of KBS & KM (Knowledge Based System & Knowledge Management) institute at the EECS Department at the University of Siegen, Germany. He obtained his M.Sc. degree in Computer Science and Ph.D. degree (Dr.-Ing.) both from the University of Dortmund, Germany, in 1986 and 1991, respectively. Accordingly he obtained Habilitation degree (Post-Doctorate) at the University of Ilmenau, Germany, in 1998. Before he got the Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Siegen he was visiting scholar at Florida State University and from 2003 at LMM (Lab for Micromechanics - Prof. Garmestani) Georgia Institute of Technology.
Since 2004, he is In Siegen. He was Visiting Scholar with Professor Zadeh father of Fuzzy Logic at U.C. Berkeley dept. of EECS joined the BISC (Berkeley Initiative of Soft Computing) from Sep/2012 to Sept/2013. As head of KBS lead a large of different academic team of researchers and educators which has, thus far, resulted in over 60 theses His research interests are focused on Knowledge Based System(KBS), knowledge management and their applications in medicine and engineering, knowledge transfer, organizational learning, and knowledge discovery from text (KDT).
He is the editor of "Integration of Practice-Oriented Knowledge Technology" (2013) and "Integrated Systems, Design and Technology" (2011) published by Springer, as well as three(text book- the last one has been published in October 2109 with the title: Computer addid Writing by Soringer)and five edited books. He, with his students, has published with more than 270 publications including 30 Journal publications, and obtained four paper awards. He got the European Award Cute-prize 2015. He is a senior member of IEEE as well as member of editorial board of five respective journals. He is the founder of Alzheimer Knowledge Platform.
