Possible Tours for IEEE Conference at SDSM&T May 2013

Greetings from the Black Hills & Badlands of South Dakota! GeoFunTrek Tours is pleased to offer touring and sightseeing experiences for those not attending daytime meetings during the IEEE Conference in Rapid City, SD. These tours are designed and scheduled to compliment the conference schedule and not conflict with planned evening activities. Please take a few minutes to read over the tours offered and consider which ones you may wish to attend. Then E-mail us, (the sooner the better), at: geofuntrek@mt-rushmore.net by May 1, 2013 with your choices in order of importance. This will enable us to schedule the tours based on your wishes and expected demand. Once we have a schedule, we will E-mail you the schedule and allow you to start making reservations for the tour(s) of your choosing. We will also make the schedule available to the Conference organizers for their website. Space on these tours is limited; a deposit of $30.00 per tour will reserve your place on that tour and the balance will be collected at the conclusion of the tour. All sales are on a first-come-first-served basis and last minute sales will be on a space available basis.

The tours we are offering have been customized to meet the scheduling requirements of the IEEE Conference while allowing sufficient time for travel and fun activities along the way. Your input and ideas on the choices will be greatly appreciated. Pre-conference and post-conference tours will also be available, please contact us for details.

Tours and Sightseeing Options

All tours include transportation and guiding services, admissions, complimentary light snacks, soft drinks and bottled water. Meals, souvenirs and additional services not specifically listed are not included in the stated price of the tour.

  1. Northern Hills (4 person minimum)
    $60.00 + $3.30 tax = $63.30 per person:
    1. 9:00 am – Depart the Adoba Eco Hotel and travel to Spearfish, SD;
    2. Tour Spearfish Canyon with photo stops arriving in Deadwood, SD;
    3. Tour Deadwood with lunch (on your own) ** and individualized visits to local attractions. Local Attractions and Sites include, but not limited to: 1) Gaming Halls and Casinos, 2) Days of ’76 Museum, 3) Adams Museum and House, 4) Mount Moriah Cemetery, 5) Mount Roosevelt Tower, 6) Homestake Goldmine Visitor Center;
    4. Return to Rapid City via US Hwy 385 & 44 with stop at the Chubby Chipmunk (a hand-dipped chocolate shop), or via the colorful mining towns of Rochford, SD and Mystic, SD (weather & roads permitting;
    5. 3:00 pm or 4:00 pm - return to the Adoba Eco Hotel. The return will be scheduled to meet the needs of the Conference Agenda.
  2. Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial and Custer State Park (4 person minimum)
    $60.00 + $3.30 tax = $63.30 per person:
    1. 9:00 am - Depart the Adoba Eco Hotel and drive to Mount Rushmore National Memorial;
    2. Tour Mount Rushmore;
    3. Drive to and tour Crazy Horse Memorial with lunch (on your own) **;
    4. Scenic drive through Custer State Park;
    5. 3:00 pm or 4:00 pm - return to the Adoba Eco Hotel. The return will be scheduled to meet the needs of the Conference Agenda.
  3. Badlands National Park (4 person minimum)
    $60.00 + $3.30 tax = $63.30 per person:
    1. 9:00 am - Depart the Adoba Eco Hotel;
    2. Drive to and tour the legendary and majestic landscapes of Badlands National Park, www.nps.gov/badl. There will be numerous stops including the Park’s Visitor Center, designated Scenic Overlooks and the option for some short hikes if desired;
    3. Stop for lunch (on your own)** and shopping;
    4. 3:00 pm or 4:00 pm return to the Adoba Eco Hotel. The return will be scheduled to meet the needs of the Conference Agenda.

** Lunches are on your own and guests are allowed to bring their own lunch and snacks. We provide coolers with ice for those wishing to keep food and beverages cool.
